Synthetic Organic Chemistry; Total Synthesis; Organic Synthetic Method Development; Bioorganic Synthesis using enzymes, especially lipase; Synthesis of various classes of lipids (triacylglycerols, ether lipids and phospholipids) comprising high levels of n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids such as EPA and DHA; Chemoenzymatic synthesis of structured lipids; Kinetic resolution of enantiomers of chiral glycerol derivatives using lipase; Kinetic resolution of fatty acids involving concentration of EPA and/or DHA from fish oil using lipase; Specialized lipids and lipid preparations for halibut and fish aquaculture.

Supervised the first Ph.D. student to graduate from the Chemistry Department at the University of Iceland (Dr. Arnar Halldorsson, 2003).
Supervised three M.Sc. students at the University of Iceland.
Supervised two postdoctoral fellows.
Acted as an opponent in three doctorate defences (Lund in Sweden twice, and Oxford University in England, UK.).
Currently supervising a Ph.D. student and a MS student.
